Once upon a time, there was a cat who knew how to do magic.

She was a magic cat.

Many cats are born knowing magic, but she was different.

She wanted to be the best magic cat in the world.

So the magic cat practiced her magic a lot.

When she was hot, she made it rain.

When she was cold, she made the sun come out.

When she was tired, she slept on the clouds.

When she was hungry, she made food appear out of nowhere.

And when she was bored, she made pretty things out of thin air.

Magic cats could make so many things:

Huge things and small things, weird and wonderful things,

Colorful things, things with wings, things with tails and horns and feathers,

Things that jump, things that fly, things that roll round and round,

Things that make noise, and things that do not make a single sound.

One day the magic cat saw something strange.

It was a puppy!

He was playing with one of the big colorful balls she made.

The cat tried to ignore the puppy, hoping he would go away.

But the puppy rolled the ball over to her.

The puppy asked, "Is this your ball?"

The cat said "No."

Then the puppy said, "It is a very nice ball."

The cat said "Yes."

Then the puppy said, "Will you play with me and the ball?"

The cat said, "No."

Then the puppy asked, "Can we play with something else instead?"

The cat thought for a bit, then said, "Yes."

The cat made strings of yarn appear from the sky.

Red yarn, green yarn, blue yarn and yellow.

The puppy jumped and danced around happily.

How marvelous it was!

The cat was amused, because the puppy was so happy.

The puppy's short tail wagged fiercely, while his long tail swished to and fro.

The puppy asked, "How did you make the ball?"

The cat said, "By magic."

The puppy asked, "How did you make it rain yarn?"

The cat said, "By magic."

"You can do magic?" the puppy asked.

"Of course I can!" the cat said proudly. "I'm a cat, and cats are magic."

The puppy was so glad to hear this. His playful tail wagged even faster.

"I've never met a magic cat before!" he said. "What's your name?"

"I don't have a name," the cat said.

"I don't have one either!" the puppy said happily. "Let's be friends!"

"If we're going to be friends," the cat said haughtily, "we're going to need names."

The puppy thought long and hard.

"You're a cat, and you're magic," he observed. "I'll call you Magic Pusa!"

Magic Pusa rolled her eyes, but she did not say she disliked the name.

"You're a puppy, and you're happy," she pointed out. "I'll call you Happy Tuta!"

Happy Tuta barked and jumped around happily. He liked that name!

Happy Tuta followed Magic Pusa around wherever she went, asking questions.

"How old are you?" he asked.

"I'm 30 years old," she answered.

"We're almost the same age," he told her. "I'm 3 months old!"

She sniffed. "Years are not the same as months," she pointed out, and "30 is not at all like 3."

"Why, it's exactly the same," he argued. "It's only a matter of a zero at the end!"

At first Magic Pusa was annoyed with Happy Tuta. Happy Tuta was very young and energetic.

She was young for a magic cat, but she was not as energetic as he.

But Happy Tuta liked being around Magic Pusa, and soon Magic Pusa liked being around Happy Tuta, too.

She liked when her magic made him happy. He liked that she made pretty things out of thin air.

That was how Happy Tuta and Magic Pusa became friends.
